Rule Modifications  - Set #2

Reference is made to the FFC Competition Rules (the "Rules") which can be found on FFC's website at http://www.flyfishingcanada.net/web/default/files/images/docs/ffc_competition_rules_revised_2012.pdf

The following constitutes the Rule Modifications as contemplated by Article 6.1 of the Rules for the 11th FFC National Fly Fishing Championships and Conservation Symposium to be held in Calgary, Alberta from September 23 to September 27, 2013. These Rule Modifications apply only to the foregoing (and no other) event.

1. The Host Region of the 11th FFC National Fly Fishing Championships and Conservation

Symposium is Calgary Alberta, with the 2013 National Fly fishing Championship and Conservation Symposium Chapter of Trout Unlimited Canada being the Host Organization/Local Organizer.

2. The Championship waters (Sectors) shall be comprised of three Sectors on the Bow River and

Two Sectors on a lake, as follows:

(I) Arbour Lake

(II) Lake Midnapore

(III) Bow River 1

(IV) Bow River 2

(V) Bow River 3

3. The Bow River Sectors will be bank/wade fishing. The Arbour Lake and Lake Midnapore Sectors will be fished by boat.

4. The headquarter venue is the Carriage House Inn, 9030 Macleod Trail South, Calgary, Alberta
 

5. The Basic Schedule of Events for the 11th FFC National Fly Fishing Championships and

Conservation Symposium is as follows:

Sunday Sept 23 - 24 - No fishing the river competition waters from 12:01 AM Monday Sept. 23 to 11:59 PM Tuesday September 24, except during officially scheduled practice. No fishing the Arbour Lake and Lake Midnapore competition waters from 12:01 AM August 13, 2013 to 11:59 PM Tuesday September 24, 2013 except during officially scheduled practice.

Monday Sept. 23

AM - Practice Session - Competition Lake and River Beats open for practice. Boats provided.

Competitors to provide their own transportation. A practice schedule will be established for the Lakes.

PM - Registration and Captain's meeting

PM - Conservation Symposium - mandatory attendance for all registered competitors

PM - Meet and Greet

Tuesday Sept. 24

AM - Practice Session - Competition Lake and River Beats open for practice. Boats provided for the Lakes.

Competitors to provide their own transportation. A practice schedule will be established for the Lakes.

PM - Practice Session - Competition River Beats open for practice. Competitors to provide their own transportation. Lakes will be closed to practice.

6. Rule Modifications as follows:

ARTICLE 8: BANK FISHING COMPETITIONS

8.1 of the Rules is modified as follows:

Rule Modification: Transportation will be scheduled and posted by the organizers in the host hotel - the Carriage House Inn, 9030 Macleod Trail South, Calgary, Alberta. In fairness to other

competitors, transportation will not wait for late arrivals - if a competitor misses a bus for a particular Championship session, such competitor may not participate in such session. Competitors may not use their own transportation to and from any bank fishing session.

Life jackets are recommended for all river fishing. Competitors must provide their own life jackets.

ARTICLE 9: BOAT FISHING COMPETITIONS

9.1 of the Rules is modified as follows:

Competitors may not use their own transportation to and from any boat fishing session.

9.5 of the Rules is modified as follows:

Rule Modification: There will be no controllers in the boats. Each competitor will act as controller for the other competitor. The competitor in command of the boat may not position the boat in such a way as to unfairly disadvantage his fellow competitor.

 9.10 of the Rules is modified as follows:

Rule Modification: All boat fishing must take place with the boat drifting sideways with the wind. A drogue may be used if the competitor in command of the boat wishes.

Drogues will be provided and, if used, must be deployed on the right hand side of the boat when facing the front of the boat. It is not permitted to fish nor have flies in the water while the boat is under power, from oars. Both competitors must fish in front of the boat from the same (downwind) side and cast their flies in the water on their half of the boat.

The flies, while in the water, must not pass behind the centerline of the boat. Anchoring the boat is not permitted. If the boat or drogue is caught on the bottom or on any object, fishing must stop until the boat is again free to drift.

Life jackets must be worn in the boat for all lake fishing sessions. Competitors must provide their own life jackets.

ARTICLE 10: DURATION OF EVENTS, AND SCORING, AND PRACTICE SESSIONS

10.3 of the Rules is modified as follows:

Rule Modification: At all Sectors the Championship fishing sessions will be from 8:30am to 11:30am and from 1:30pm to 4:30pm.

ARTICLE 12: OBLIGATIONS OF COMPETITORS

12.5 of the Rules is modified as follows:

Rule Modification: Scorecards must be signed by both the competitor and the controller.

ARTICLE 19: CARE OF FISH CAUGHT

19.1 is modified as follows:

Rule Modification: In boat fishing the competitor must measure his own fish to the nearest millimeter, have the measurement confirmed by his fellow competitor, and record the measurement on the scorecard. Measurement is from the tip of the nose to the end of the tail. The tail should not be squeezed together.

19.2 is modified as follows:

Rule Modification: In boat fishing the competitor must remove the hook himself, revive and release the fish carefully.

ARTICLE 21: ELIGIBLE FISH

21.1 of the Rules is modified as follows:

Rule Modification: Eligible fish species include any trout (except Bull Trout), and whitefish. No other species (eg. Burbot or suckers) are eligible. For measuring purposes, the length will be from the tip of the nose to the end of the tail. The tail should not be squeezed together. Minimum length of eligible fish is 20cm.

ARTICLE 23: COMPETITION FLY LINES

23.5 of the Rules is modified as follows:

ARTICLE 24: COMPETITION LEADERS

ARTICLE 27: PROHIBITIONS

27.1 of the Rules is modified as follows:

Rule Modification: The following are prohibited:

(a) Fishing the river competition waters from 12:01 AM Monday Sept. 23 to 11:59 PM Tuesday September 24 except during officially scheduled practice. Fishing the Arbour Lake and Lake Midnapore competition waters from 12:01 AM August 13, 2013 to 11:59 PM Tuesday September 24, 2013 except during officially scheduled practice.

(b) through (f) as stated in the Rules, plus

(g) No swimming

(h) No wading past the midway point of the river.

(h) No shuffling to intentionally disturb the substrate before, during or after a competitive fishing session.

(i) No trolling.
