After sending out my last Update, John Beaven e-mailed to point out that the USA has also been invited to attend the Oceania Fly Fishing Championship in Tasmania on 19-25 February 2007 (not 2006 as I wrote during a geezerly memory lapse).
The current issue of The Canadian Fly Fisher has an article about the Grande River event this September. If you are not a subscriber (shame on you), you can check out becoming one at www.canflyfisf.com
The improvements to this magazine over the past year or so have been impressive. Now, having recently joined forces with Trout Unlimited Canada, starting with the May-July issue they will also be including Currents as a supplement.
Following is the text of an e-mail received from Mac Stark this afternoon:
It is with great pride that we announce the launch of the Fly Kid Foundation web site as of today. Brian Heppelle should be applauded for taking on the role of Executive Director and getting the site up and running so quickly.
Our main objective is to get kids involved in our sport as an alternative to other less productive activities. They are our future, and the future of fly fishing.
Please save www.flykid.ca to your "favourites" and visit the site often. Input from anyone regarding ideas to help or improve the site are appreciated, and some having come in already.
Special thanks to Paul Marriner for donating the first books to the library project!
